FAQs

Are you currently accepting clients?

Because of consistent demand for therapy services, I typically have a waitlist of clients interested in working with me.  Please contact me directly for a more specific timeline of when I am able to offer availability to new clients.

Who do you work with?

I provide therapy services to adults (ages 18+) who reside in the state of Michigan (if you are outside the state of Michigan, please contact me regarding coaching services).  My therapeutic expertise is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the treatment of anxiety disorders in females, with areas of concern including, but not limited to: anxiety, low self-esteem, setting goals and behavior change, decision making, establishing boundaries, life transitions, relationship concerns, and job stress.

Do you provide in-person sessions?

My therapy practice is completely virtual! All sessions are conducted using a HIPAA-compliant (secure and confidential) telehealth video platform.

Are virtual therapy sessions right for me?

Virtual therapy sessions are very often a highly effective and convenient way to complete mental health treatment, but they are not for everyone.  Virtual therapy works best for clients who are able to secure their own private, uninterrupted space to attend therapy, and who are comfortable using technology.  Virtual therapy is also best suited for individuals with mild-to-moderate symptoms (ie. not actively psychotic, suicidal, engaged in chronic substance use, etc).

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy services varies depending on whether you plan to use your health insurance benefits or self-payment.  I am currently accepting the following insurance plans:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Blue Care Network

  • Physicians Health Plan of Michigan (pending)

Please contact your insurance’s customer service representative to confirm your coverage and your financial responsibility for mental health services.  You can also confirm that I am in your network of credentialed providers.

My current self-pay rate for a 50-minute therapy session is $150.00.

How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length.

What kinds of concerns can I bring to therapy?

My clients’ most frequent topics of concern include stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, setting goals and behavior change, decision making, establishing boundaries, life transitions, relationship concerns, and job stress.  However, I am happy to have conversations about your concerns regardless of the nature.  If your concern is out of my scope of practice (meaning I am not the best person to help you navigate your particular concern), I will do my best to help you identify a qualified professional for your particular concern.

How long does therapy take to work?

There exists no specific timeline of how long therapy takes: it is different for each and every client.  I typically work with clients, on average, between 6 and 12 months.  Anecdotally, I often notice that my clients start to ‘get it’ after we have been working together for about 3 to 6 months.  That is, clients begin to report a deeper understanding and successful, more consistent implementation of the skills and concepts we discuss during therapy sessions around this time.

Expect that therapy is not a ‘quick fix’.  Expect that your progress toward your stated therapy goals will require your dedicated and focused work during and outside of therapy sessions.  This work is NOT easy, but it is so worth your investment!

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours of notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment without being charged for the reserved time slot.  Appointments missed without notice or canceled with less than 24 hours of notice will incur a $100 Missed Appointment Fee, charged to the client’s credit card on file.

How do I know if you are a good fit for me?

Research demonstrates that the strongest predictor of positive therapy outcomes is determined by the client’s comfort level with her therapist.

I offer free, 30-minute initial consultations for clients who are interested in working together.  This meeting typically involves you sharing what brings you to therapy and what you are looking for in a therapist, and me sharing how my practice works.  This consultation is a great way for each of us to decide whether we feel we may be a good fit working together moving forward.

I highly recommend that when you are beginning your search for a therapist, you interview at least 3 therapists to gain a better idea of what you may expect from each of them.  Be sure to prioritize how comfortable you imagine feeling while working with the provider you choose.

What if I want to switch therapists?

It is integral to your successful treatment that you feel your therapy is effective and that you are working with a provider you believe will be able to help you reach your goals.  If you have concerns about our fit at any time during our work, I highly encourage that we have a conversation about this! Let’s come up with the best solution for you together, whether that is continuing our work in a different way or helping you find your best fit.

Can I book an appointment for someone else (eg. my spouse)?

Therapy is most successful when the client, herself, decides she is ready and willing to participate.  Therefore, I do not accept new client requests from family members/friends/acquaintances, unless there is a medical reason that a client requires assistance from a third party to engage in services.

What do I do if I need help right away?

On occasion, you may encounter a matter that requires urgent professional intervention.  Due to the nature of my business (non-crisis, outpatient care), I am unable to promise crisis response services.  Therefore, if you are in need of immediate assistance for a mental health concern, please connect with the following resources (United States):
