Frequently Asked Questions
Are you currently accepting clients?
Because of the consistent demand for therapy services, our therapists’ availability can vary. Some of us may have openings right away, while others may be managing a waitlist. Please reach out directly to learn more about current availability and to be matched with the clinician best suited to your needs.
Who do you work with?
We provide therapy services to adolescents (ages 13+) and adults who live in the state of Michigan. Our team brings a range of expertise, including:
Anxiety and stress
Self-esteem and confidence
Relationship concerns and family dynamics
Goal setting, decision making, and behavior change
Life transitions and work stress
Trauma and its lasting impact
Substance use or other addictive behaviors
Each of our therapists offers different specialties and approaches, but all are united in a commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care. Please click the ‘meet your counselor’ tab at the top to learn more about each of our clinicians’ areas of expertise.
Do you provide in-person sessions?
Our practice is fully virtual. All sessions take place through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth video platform that protects your privacy.
Are virtual therapy sessions right for me?
For many clients, virtual therapy is a convenient and highly effective way to receive care. It works best when you’re able to have a private, uninterrupted space and feel comfortable using technology.
Virtual therapy is generally a good fit for individuals experiencing mild to moderate symptoms. If you are actively experiencing a crisis (such as psychosis, suicidal thoughts with intent, or chronic substance use), a higher level of care may be more appropriate.
Do you take insurance? How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on whether you are using insurance or paying out-of-pocket. We currently accept the following insurance plans:
-Aetna -Medicaid -Oscar Health Plan/Small Group Plan
-Blue Cross Blue Shield -Medicare (PENDING) -Physicians Health Plan/U of M Health Plan
-Blue Care Network -Meridian -Priority (PENDING)
-Carelon -Michigan Exchange -United/Optum
-Cigna/Evernorth -McLaren (PENDING) -UMR
-HAP (PENDING) -Molina (PENDING)
We encourage you to call your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, deductible, and copay for outpatient mental health services.
For clients paying out of pocket, the current self-pay rate for a 50-minute session is $135.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes.
What kinds of concerns can I bring to therapy?
Clients come to us with a wide variety of concerns, including stress, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, work challenges, substance use and addiction, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Whatever you’re facing, we’ll work together to determine whether one of our therapists is a good fit for you. If we believe another provider would better meet your needs, we’ll do our best to connect you with appropriate referrals.
How long does therapy take to work?
Therapy isn’t a quick fix. The length of treatment varies from person to person, depending on your goals, needs, and level of engagement. Many of our clients work with us for 6–12 months, and often begin to notice meaningful changes after 3–6 months.
Progress happens when you actively engage in therapy—both in sessions and by practicing skills in daily life. It’s not always easy, but the investment is worth it.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a $135 fee, billed to the credit card on file (missed appointments are not covered by insurance and are the client’s fiancial responsibility).
How do I know if you are a good fit for me?
Research shows that the most important factor in therapy success is the quality of the relationship you feel with your therapist. We offer free 30-minute consultations so you can meet with a clinician, share what you’re looking for, and see if it feels like the right fit.
We encourage you to “shop around” and talk to a few therapists before deciding. Comfort, trust, and connection are essential to the process.
What if I want to switch therapists?
We want you to feel confident in your care. If at any point you feel like your therapist isn’t the best fit, we welcome that conversation and can either adjust the approach or help connect you with another provider within our practice (or outside of it).
Can I book an appointment for someone else (eg. my spouse)?
Therapy is most effective when clients choose it for themselves. Because of this—with the exception of minors—we only accept new client requests directly from the individual seeking services (unless there’s a medical reason that requires third-party assistance).
What do I do if I need help right away?
